EXPLORE – Bridgenorth & Ennismore
The sister communities of Bridgenorth and Ennismore are separated by a narrow stretch of Chemong Lake and connected by the James A. Gifford Causeway. Most businesses are located on the south shore in Bridgenorth, though Ennismore also offers a good selection of restaurants, shops, and everyday essentials.
The lake itself is the area’s main attraction. During the warmer months, it hosts several fishing derbies as anglers cast for smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, yellow perch, carp, muskellunge, and panfish. Chemong Lake also forms part of the Trent–Severn Waterway, linking Pigeon Lake and Buckhorn Lake.
Thanks to the area’s large population of both seasonal visitors and year-round residents, the communities feature an impressive variety of dining options. Chemong Lodge is a long-standing local favourite, offering lakeside dining with beautiful views over the water. Also in Bridgenorth, The Great Outdoors Landing is a popular stop for boaters and drivers alike, especially for its famously oversized ice cream cones.
Ennismore proudly celebrates its Irish heritage, reflected in many of its street names and local landmarks. Along Robinson Road, visitors can see a unique mortar-free stone arch built in tribute to the community’s Irish ancestors.
For a nostalgic step back in time, stop by Sullivan’s General Store at Ennis and Tara Roads. Operated by the same family for more than a century, the store is known for its old-fashioned candy, Irish memorabilia, and welcoming small-town atmosphere.
Both communities are excellent places to pick up supplies, enjoy local treats, or spend time by the water without having to travel into Peterborough.
