Bike to School Day Celebration
Active and Safe Routes to School Peterborough is teaming up with R.F. Downey Public School to celebrate Bike to School Day.
R.F. Downey P.S. is an enthusiastic promoter of active school travel as a way to keep kids safe and healthy. They are encouraging students to bike to school next Tuesday, June 4, for a celebration in their schoolyard. Parents and guardians who accompany their children to school are welcome to join the Shifting Gears team and continue the ride towards downtown Peterborough.
WHO: Active & Safe Routes to School Peterborough Committee members will be joining R.F. Downey P.S. staff and community to greet students as they arrive. Schoolyard celebrations will include entertainment by Master ventriloquist and unicyclist, Tim Holland, and musical entertainment by Cool Captain Climate (Glen Caradus).
WHAT: Throughout the year Active & Safe Routes to School Peterborough partners with schools like R.F. Downey P.S. to promote active
transportation for the trip to school. This year we are joining the Ontario initiative and promoting cycling as part of Ontario’s Bike to School Week, an extension of Bike Month, which happens each June. We are encouraging families to ride their bikes to school and will be greeting them upon arrival with a schoolyard celebration.
