Top 3 Winter Experiences in the Haliburton Highlands

When planning a winter escape, I’m always looking for places that offer a variety of experiences, the kind where you can return more than once and try something new each visit. The Haliburton Highlands is one of those destinations, especially in winter. Here are three experiences that stand out and give visitors plenty of reasons to head north.

 1) Dog Sledding at Winterdance

Dog sledding at Winterdance is the kind of experience that stays with you long after the snow melts. From the moment you meet your sled-pulling team, it’s clear these dogs are born to run. After learning the basics, you’re off, guiding your sled through quiet forest trails. It’s equal parts thrilling and peaceful, and a truly unforgettable way to experience winter in the Highlands.

2) Snowmobiling at Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve

For visitors who love exploring by trail, snowmobiling at Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve is hard to beat. You can bring your own sled, rent one on site, or join a guided tour, making it accessible for all levels of experience. With well-maintained trails and stunning winter scenery, it’s an ideal way to cover more ground and see a different side of the region.

3) Skiing and Snowboarding at Sir Sam’s Ski/Ride

Sir Sam’s Ski/Ride offers classic winter fun with a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Thanks to modern snowmaking equipment and a dedicated team, the slopes are in great condition throughout the season. Whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, or introducing kids to the sport for the first time, Sir Sam’s is a winter staple in the Haliburton Highlands.

Each of these experiences offers a different way to enjoy winter in the Haliburton Highlands, and they’re just the beginning. Visitors can also explore many snowshoe trails, discover some of Ontario’s best Nordic skiing, or spend a day ice fishing on one of the region’s many lakes.

With so much to do, the Haliburton Highlands is a destination worth returning to throughout the winter season.  Learn more at myhaliburtonhighlands.com/winter
