The current trend in wedding florals is eco-consciousness, making use of seasonal flowers and locally foraged products from local and Ontario growers. Brides and grooms are requesting colour palettes, rather than specific blooms, which means the wedding florals can be created and sourced entirely from in-season blooms from local growers.

“I am very blessed to live in the Kawarthas and have access to the most amazing local flower growers such as Louise, owner of Wild Imagination Co, and Unicorn Blooms,” Angela says.

Another trend sees many couples choosing to give away their blooms after so that they can be “up cycled” and enjoyed in places like seniors homes.

If you are looking to mix things up a bit, Angela suggests using dried blooms and foliage – either mixed with fresh flowers or on their own – to create interesting texture and unusual combinations. Think pampas grass, sun palm, bleached and dyed ruscus, lunaria and straw flowers, to name a few. These easy-to-care-for options eliminate the worry about wilting, water or weather.

In terms of floral and greens installations, a new favourite is large floral pieces which create an impact – greenery and floral walls; flowers and greens hanging, or trailing from the ceilings; arbours or arches dripping in blooms. These are often created in a wild, undone-garden style of design, such as one would find in nature.
