What is Polarized??
Have you ever wondered what causes you to lose color when you’re looking at nature? Such as, why the leaves are not as vibrant in comparison to what you see in photos? Or, why we squint in the sun? The answer to that question is glare.
Glare: A light within the field of vision that is brighter than the brightness to which the eyes are adapted; “a glare of sunlight”. Common situations where glare is perceived could be when you are driving behind someone and their back windshield becomes more like a mirror than a looking like glass, or when you’re looking in the water and all you can see is a reflection of the sun, instead of seeing the bottom of the pool or lake. One of the most common places we notice glare is a bright winter morning with snowfall from the night before, all you see is a sheen of light on the snow.
If you have ever experienced any of these issues, I would highly recommend a good, solid pair of polarized sunglasses. Polarization is an internal filter in sunglasses that helps remove glare from your vision, which aids in reducing fatigue when exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time; it also improves vibrant colors that we see in nature.
There are plenty of different brands, prices and styles of sunglasses out there. My recommendation is not to just look for brand or price, but to go and try them on during a nice sunny day – whether it be Winter or Summer, and see what is the most comfortable fit for you. Good quality sunglasses, if found properly can easily be used for many years; with that said, a good quality sunglass is more of an investment into the quality of your vision, protecting it for many years to come.
With so many different brands out there, it is great to have help deciding! You are more than welcome to call or pop into the store to ask for recommendations – we are always happy to help.
